چکیده

This paper presents a simple DFT-based golden section searching algorithm (DGSSA) for the single tone frequency estimation. Because of truncation and discreteness in signal samples, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) are inevitable to cause the spectrum leakage and fence effect which lead to a low estimation accuracy. This method can improve the estimation accuracy under conditions of a low signal-tonoise ratio (SNR) and a low resolution. This method firstly uses three FFT samples to determine the frequency searching scope, then − besides the frequency − the estimated values of amplitude, phase and dc component are obtained by minimizing the least square (LS) fitting error of three-parameter sine fitting. By setting reasonable stop conditions or the number of iterations, the accurate frequency estimation can be realized. The accuracy of this method, when applied to observed single-tone sinusoid samples corrupted by white Gaussian noise, is investigated by different methods with respect to the unbiased Cramer-Rao Low Bound (CRLB). The simulation results show that the root mean square error (RMSE) of the frequency estimation curve is consistent with the tendency of CRLB as SNR increases, even in the case of a small number of samples. The average RMSE of the frequency estimation is less than 1.5 times the CRLB with SNR = 20 dB and N = 512.

Fitting the Three-parameter Weibull Distribution by using Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure

The Weibull distribution is widely employed in several areas of engineering because it is an extremely flexible distribution with different shapes. Moreover, it can include characteristics of several other distributions. However, successful usage of Weibull distribution depends on estimation accuracy for three parameters of scale, shape and location. This issue shifts the attentions to the requ...

Bias of Amplitude Estimation Using Three-Parameter Sine Fitting in the Presence of Additive Noise

The estimation of the amplitude of a sinewave using traditional sine fitting algorithms which are based on square error minimization is biased in the presence of additive noise contrary to what happens generally in linear regression problems. An approximate closed form expression for the estimation error as a function of sinewave amplitude, additive noise standard deviation and number of data p...

Gaussian Jitter-Induced Bias of Sine Wave Amplitude Estimation Using Three-Parameter Sine Fitting

In this paper, the bias on the estimated amplitude, which is caused by Gaussian jitter, is studied in case of the IEEE 1057 standard three-parameter sine-fitting method. Because no analytical study exists, this source of uncertainty is usually not considered. Nowadays, it is becoming more and more important due to the ever increasing sampling rates available in analog-todigital converters (ADCs...

Precision of harmonic amplitude estimation on jitter corrupted data using sine fitting

In this paper we study the effect that jitter and phase noise have on the precision of amplitude estimation of the harmonics of a periodic signal. The analysis carried out is applicable to both Three-Parameter Sine Fitting as well as Coherent Discrete Fourier Transform procedures. We consider the case where jitter and phase noise on the signal or sampling clock is small when compared with the s...
